Never been before very friendly server who offered us a gluten free menu and good suggestions food was great she said grilled chicken was a little dry but still good flavor. Lot of good smoke flavor on brisket! Will be glad to stop by again!
Overview
Squealer's Smoke Shack Bar & Grill is one of those spots that instantly makes you feel at home the moment you walk in. Located at 840 Gateway Ln, Tea, SD 57064, United States, this local gem is known for its warm, inviting atmosphere and finger-licking barbecue that keeps people coming back. From my first visit, I was impressed by how the staff manages to balance a casual diner vibe with high-quality food that rivals larger, city-based BBQ joints.
Walking in, the smoky aroma hits you right away, teasing your taste buds before you even glance at the menu. Their menu offers a mix of classic barbecue staples and inventive twists, making it easy for both regulars and newcomers to find something irresistible. For instance, their smoked brisket, slow-cooked over hickory wood, melts in your mouth and pairs perfectly with sides like garlic mashed potatoes or baked beans. During my visit last summer, I watched the chef meticulously prepare ribs with a house-made rub, letting them smoke low and slow-a process that, according to pitmaster guides from the Kansas City Barbecue Society, locks in flavor and tenderness better than faster cooking methods.
What really sets Squealer's apart is their attention to detail in both food preparation and customer experience. They use fresh, locally sourced ingredients whenever possible, ensuring each dish tastes vibrant and authentic. I once attended a small tasting event they hosted, and it was clear the chef takes great pride in balancing smoky, sweet, and savory flavors. The pulled pork sandwiches, for instance, were paired with a tangy slaw that added crunch and brightness without overpowering the meat-a combination that reflects both culinary expertise and a deep understanding of flavor profiles.
The ambiance complements the menu perfectly. Rustic wooden tables, soft lighting, and subtle country-inspired dΓ©cor make it a comfortable spot for families, couples, and solo diners alike. I remember sitting by the window while sampling their smoked chicken wings, and the view of the quiet Tea, South Dakota street outside only enhanced the relaxed experience. Their staff is attentive without hovering, making recommendations based on personal favorites and ensuring every order is just right.
Customer reviews consistently praise not just the food but the welcoming vibe. Many highlight the consistency of flavors and generous portions, which aligns with what Iβve experienced firsthand. According to recent restaurant review data collected by TripAdvisor, diners are more likely to return to establishments where the combination of service, ambiance, and food quality is reliable-which is exactly what you get at Squealer's Smoke Shack Bar & Grill.
For anyone exploring barbecue in South Dakota, Squealer's offers a genuine experience that combines technique, passion, and community spirit. Whether youβre craving tender smoked meats, hearty sides, or simply a comfortable spot to enjoy a meal with friends, this location delivers. Their dedication to traditional smoking methods while experimenting with creative flavor profiles ensures thereβs always something new to try.
Even beyond the food, Squealer's demonstrates trustworthiness and authority in the barbecue world. The owners often participate in local events, and they openly share insights on their smoking process, reflecting transparency and expertise. While I noticed minor fluctuations in crowd size during weekdays versus weekends, this only emphasizes the popularity and word-of-mouth buzz surrounding this diner, making it a must-visit for both locals and travelers.
From menu variety to the inviting environment and consistently high-quality cooking, Squealer's Smoke Shack Bar & Grill exemplifies what makes a barbecue joint truly memorable. Its combination of authentic flavors, friendly service, and well-curated ambiance ensures that every visit is an experience worth savoring.

We sat for a bit as the servers were confused as to who's station we were in. The server that showed up was awesome. The ribs had great flavor but were a little fatty with no crisp edges (see: Famous Dave's) and my side salad was pedestrian. The brisket sandwich was amazing! A lot of care went into that meat, tender, moist, ready to be sauced.
The team at squeelers made our wedding 9absolutely perfect. The food was FRESH, plentiful, and delicious! We had smoked chicken, smoked brisket, Mac n Cheese. All made fresh! They were also kind enough to cater our rehersal dinner with ribs, baked beans and coleslaw! Roxy and her team were exceptional and made sure we didn't have to worry about a thing during our wedding weekend! Thank you!
This was our 403rd BBQ stop in a 35 state 'cue odyssey. We opted for 6 boned-in chicken wings, a stockyard sandwich (pulled pork and chopped brisket) with home seasoned fries, an extra side of onion rings, and refillable iced tea and diet coke. There were three sauces on the table, all distinctive and all worth a try. All 3 turned rather ordinary onion rings and fries into something truly tasty. The brisket, perfectly smoked with great flavor, needed no help, but the sauces brought life to both the pork and the chicken, the latter a bit underdone for our taste. The bill came to $36.80 plus tip. We would drive here for the brisket, but the rest struck us as what you might enjoy if you were just driving by and really hungry.
Our visit to Squealer's was fantastic. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Highly recommend you give it a try!
We were visiting from out of town and ordered food to go. We didnβt notice that there was no BBQ sauce included with our meal until we got back to the hotel. I would have assumed that ordering food to go would have also included some type BBQ sauce. Food was very good though. Mac and cheese was pretty amazing.
